TIMARU PORT GUARDS. The Timaru Port Guards' annual meeting was held on Monday after parade, a good miister of the company being present, Captain Thomas in the chair. The various balance-sheets were'put before the company and passed as correct, the balance sheets showing an excess of assets over liabilities of £l3O. The following were elected to the various committees: —Finance: Sergt. Foster arid Corpl. Uunnill; secretary, Sergt. O'Leary; auditors, Pte. K'ar.wß and Pte. Grandi; battalion ball, Sergts. Foster and O'Leary, Corporal Dunnill, Ptes. Hathaway, Earl and Shelly. Pte. Burford, the retiring secretary, was accorded a vpte of thanks also a vote of £5 ss. A vote of £5 was 'granted to the shooting committee and £1 Is to the caretaker of the Drill rla.ll. : A suggestion was put before the company of the need of lon-ger-range shooting. It was decided tint the Guards representatives bring tlie subject before the garrison shooting committee for inquiry. The need of a better telephone was also discussed: It was unanimously agreed upon to obtain 12 new barrels for the use of the companv's team representatives, and also for. the use of the team sent to Trentham. Free ammunition was granted for all the matches .on the .programme, to the caretakers of arms, clothing and ammunition. A hearty vote of thanks to the chairman. Captain Thomas, brought to a close a very enthusiastic meeting.
