TIMARU GRAIN MARKETS. The business dpnc 'in grain and produce ill the local markets during the past week lias been, of an erratic and rather qniet liatute. _ There has been considerable inquiry' from different sources for wheat and oats, but the prices offered do not seen! to coincide with farmers' ideas of what the.v should receive for their grain, coriserjiicntlv deals have been infrequent. Several- of the farmers seeiri inclined _to hold for a rise and one refused an offer of 3s 9d for tuscah on trucks at' a country; station, though on the other hand some, growers liad accepted as' low ti price as-:3s 7d. Business in oats was in . favour of buyers arid the prices &encrallv ruling for good fair samples are Is 3d to Is 6d f.o.b. sacks in. The local potato market is disappointing, Tlio best prices being £2 10s per ton, f.0.b., sacks in, and the local growers lii.vo refused, practically to a man, to oo business on these terms. Consequently, as the demand from both islands is fairly keen, all the orders arc I < ng placed in tlio south.

Tifscan lias been sold at 3s 6d, 3s 6id to 3s 7d; -rowers are asking for 3s Bd. There has been a fairly large enquiry at quotations tor shipment to London, and some fairl> large sales have been made for delneiy in April. Freight is hard to get all the available steamers are fully booked for April and May. Oats are dull farmers not to take the. prices offered—ls Id for Duns, Is 3d to Is 4d for.Gartons and Sparrou bills, Is to is Id for Danish. Barley'is practically unsaleable. but there is some enquiry tor feed barley at 2s 6d.
