Jem Macc, the ex-cha,uipion pugilist, has applied for the old age pension at Clerkcnwell. CAPTAIN COOK MEMORIAL. Received 10.15 p.m., March 26th. LONDON, March 26. As the outcome of Sir J. H. Carruthers' proposal a general committee of the Captain Cook memorial has been formed by the Empire League. The Prince of Wales is chairman and Lord Brassey treasurer. The Lord Mayor, Lords Hosehcry and Cromer, Mr Astjuith and Mr Balfour are members, and seventeen ex-governors and the Agents-General represent Australasia. Received 12.25 a.m., March 27th. PRESENTATION TO BATTLESHIP. The Hon. William Ha 11-Jones, High Commissioner for New Zealand, on behalf of his widow presented Mr Scddon's portrait to the, battleship New Zealand in Portland Roads. The Hon. Mr Hall-Jones and Captain Stoddart delivered spirited speeches. The crew cheered Mrs Seddon and the High Commissioner. The portrait was hung in the wardroom. ARMED AUTOMOBILES. BERLIN, March 25. Germany is building heavily armed automobiles capable of high speed and carrying machine guns, each costing £20,000. i THE PLOT AGAINST THE AMEER. TEHERAN, March 25. The arrests at Jellahabad include high officials and personal attendants of the Ameer. There is no indication that the British army is 'affected.
