THEATRE ROYAL.
PICTORIAL ENTERTAINMENT. A picture entertainment of exceptional merit was given in the Theatre Royal last night by the Taylor-Carnng-tou Company. The theatre was well filled upstairs and down and the audience showed its approval of the programme presented by frequent and hearty applause. The pictures were projected by means of electric light and all the films were remarkably clear and realistic. Dramatic, scenic and comic pictures, as well as others' of an educative character were shown, one of the most interesting educational pictures depicting China as she is to-day,—her great awakening, of which so much lias been heard, lt'appor.rod from the pictures of China that a wonderful change has taken place in that country, and thf.t it is now well on the way to being up-to-date in services rf r ll k'nds, including wireless telegraphy, motor cars, electric light, etc. The ••star" picture last night was one entitled "To be shot at Sunrise"—a picture full of startling incident, and staged with a wealth of novel and beautiful scenery, while everv part was well enacted by the moving figures. A very line coloured picture was one entitled "Saved ,as bv a Miracle," the plot of which was followed by the audience with keen interest from start to finish, and incidentally some beautiful .scenery was introduced. "The King's Soldier" was a dramatic picture in which was given some, interesting glimpses of soldier life, and in "The Cowboy's Bride dexterity in all the acts in which the r-owbov ' is proficient was strikingly brought out during the progress of a
long and difficult ride across rough country when, eloping with his bride. One of the cleverest trick films ever shown here was seen in "The Child s Circus" in which all manner of animate and inanimate things are made to appear alive and perform in a wonderful way: while another good picture of an entirely different kind was one depxting a new ascent of Mount Blanc.
