W AIM ATE HUNT

The annual general meeting of the Waimate. Hunt Club was licld at T\youiey's Hotel, on Saturday aiternoon. There was a good attendance of mcuibcrs, and Mr li. Whitney (the Master) presided. A petition was received from lu members, asking that the meeting be adjourned lb some other tiinc tli'AU Saturday afternoon. llic meeting decided to go on with the business, as a- number of those present could not attend later. The adopted balance sheet showed a credit balance ofi- 10s, which was considered satisfactory as the Club had during the year had extraordinary expenditure in shifting kennels and in other ways. Ihe chairman in vacating the chair hoped the Club would succeed, and said lie would do all he could to help it lorward. The farmers were deserving of thanks for allowing the Club to cross their land. The ladies were also to be thanked for their interest in the sport, fpr thev greatlv added to the pleasure of the' meets. ' Mr E. C. Studholme moved that the best thanks of tlie Glub be accorded to Mr Whitney tor his efforts oil behalf of the Club, lie had rcilly been its mainstay, in fact, but fpr. him it was doubtful if there would have been a Waimate Hunt Club. The nicjtion was carried unanimously. .Six tenders were then opened for hunting the hounds for the season, and on a ballot being taken, C. Cornelius was elected at a salary of £l2O. Officers were, elected as follows' Master, Mr

J. B. Bowkcr; deputy master, Mr A. Archer; secretary, Mr B. .F. AVliitney, re-elected. Mr Whitney wished to retire,- but on the unanimous request of tbc members present, who were, of opinion that no better man could be elected, lie agreed to take up the po sition again. Three hearty cheers were then given for Mr Whitney for his past services as Master, and he was elected a life member of the Club. Treasurer, Mr J. W. Freeman. Mr Whitney thanked the meeting. He was getting an old man, but this kind of thing made him younger, and he would still do his best for the Club. On the mo-tion.-of-Mr Rattray, an honorarium of £5 ss' was voted to the secretary.
