THE MARINE BAND.

A very happy kind of reunion was held by : the Marine Band in the Glasgow Tea Rooms last -night when the members, together witli. representatives of the. other local bands, and numerous friends and well wishers to the number of about 60, met and spent a few hours in social intercourse. A' capital spread was provided and between speech and song and story the time passed very quickly.- Mr F. C. . Watson made an admirable chairman, and Bandmaster Mayo, a good vice-chairman. . The .chairman mentioned that the income of the band for the year had been £176 lis lOd, and the expenditure £IBO 10s 7d. A deposit of £25 had: been paid on the .instruments and £433' 12s 9d was still owing on these. The excess of assets over liabilities amounted to about £llO. Nothing was paid in salaries except to the conductor, a- lot of incidental expenses being, paid by members of the band. Drum-Major Baticrsby read the 'annual report. Mention was madei of the fact that the band had secured a new set ofinstruments costing £512 4s 6d; had given i2 municipal concerts, had attended 12 paid engagements, 12 Sunday and other .concerts, eight times to assist local affairs, had given four concerts for charitable purposes, tliree at the hospital, twice for the benefit of the Pipe Band and tiwee for the Fire Brigade,, a total of 55 turnouts for the year. Appreciative reference was made to the good service rendered ( the band by the late Bandsman j. F. Cameron, and regret was expressed at. his untimely death. The committee hoped that members of the band would continue to work in harmony for the good of the band, and suggested that they should set to work at once to organise a bazaar to wipe out the debt now standing on the instruments. A number of toasts were honoured. Mr Webb proposed the toast of the late Band Contest Committee, complimenting them upon, the excellent work they had done, and heartily thanking them for it. Special reference was made to the work done by the secretary Mr Hugo Gorlitz,Mr W. Gilchrist, and Mr Weir, each of whom made appropriate acknowledgement of the compliment paid him. Kindred Bands was proposed, by .Mr Christie, and responded to by Bandmaster McGregor (Pipe Band), Secretary Griffiths (Garrison) and Mr Hume (secretary to the Pipe Band). . The chairman proposed " The Timaru Fire Brigade" and. suitable acknowledgment was made by Messrs Ford and ToneyclifFe. Several other toasts were honoured and a highly enjoyable evening was. spent by one and all. ' ■ ' •
