HOSPITAL DIETARY.
To tile-Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir, —Being 'compelled through cix--cumstances to seek admission to the Timarir Hospital for treatment I found the diet so low that I have to ventilate the matter through the press. The diet at the hospital is the poorest I have met with, in fact it is not sufficient for a man in fair general health. There are often patients in hospitals ■\vlio require full diet, as in my own case, and others here, yet the worthy Board sit in their easy chairs round the table and decree that the diet allowed here is quite sufficient for the unfortunate patients. They have cut down the expenses of the hospital, knowing full well that most patients will put up with. it. But I maintain that no Board have any right to retrench tf the . extent of bringing the food supply of a hospital below proper nourishing point. By inserting the foregoing letter in your valuable paper you will oblige,—l am, etc.,
JOHN GALE Timaru Hospital, March 3rd.
Making inquiries we learn that unde"' instructions from the Board that economy must be practised the regulation dietary scale is now being adhered to. Our correspondent should also address his complaint direct to the Board.—Ed. T.H.
