Cross, of Timaru, has received advice that she' lias gained the M.A. degree with first-class honours, in botany. Miss Cross has a remarkably good scholastic record. AVhen 11 years ,of age she gained an Education Board's junior exhibition on passing the Fifth Standard at the' South School; at 12 she gained a junior High School exhibition; at 14 an Education Board's senior scholarship; at 18 was in the "credit"' list in the Junior University scholarship examination, and gained a' bursary in the Normal Training College; at 19 passed the first terms with' credit in Latin and biology; at 18 passed*the second terms with credit, and gained an exhibition in biology; at 21 passed with credit id biology for the third year, and gained the B.A. degree with a Senior University scholarship, and was appointed student assistant in the laboratory' of Canterbury College; and at 22 (this year) has been awarded the M.A. degree with first-class honours, in botany, one of very few who have gamed the latter distinction.
