Mr E. J. Stringer, an inspector under the Scaffolding Inspection Act 1906, was in Timaru on Friday and in conversation with a Press representative, he drew attention to the fact that under the Act no person must erect any scaffolding more than 16ft in height in any district in which an inspector has been appointed without first notifying such inspector of his intention so to do. The notice must be given in writing and delivered at the office of the inspector at least 24 hours before the time fixed for up of the scaffolding. In every case where an accident occurs in connection with the erection, repair, or structural alteration of any building the person having the control or management of such operation shall forthwith give written notice to the inspector, specifying the nature of 1% accident, the name of residence of the person killed or injured, and the place if any, to which such person has been removed.
