The French Ambassador to England, in a letter to M. Pichon, declared that the French merchants in London were greatly alarmed at the mere announcement that the '■French customs tariff was about to be revised. .'He emphasised- the suggestion made by the British Government to impose heavy duties mi French products, especially Fiench wines.
