Noble was appointed captain. MEETING OF COUNCIL. j Per Press Association. i | CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 18. The New Zealand Cricket Council decided to-night—"That the secretary be requested to communicate direct with the South African cricket authorities, and ascertain the terms upon which the team wiiich is to visit Australia would extend their tour to New Zealand," It was further decided that the management committee should consider the rules governing the Plunket shield matches, with a view to alterations, it advisable, the committee to acquaint the Associations with the proposed alterations. It was resolved—"That, the management committee consider the best method of dealing with the net proceeds of the Plunket shield matches." The mover suggested that the gate money, after expenses had been deducted, be divided, one-third each to the competing Associations, and onethird to the Council, but this was objected to, and the opinion was expressed that 5 per cent, of the proceeds after deducting expenses, would lie sufficient for the Council. .. TIMARU A v. TIMARU B. This match has been looked forward to with keen interest by the Timaru Club; owing to the overwhelnvug defeat inflicted upon the B team in the lirst round. The busy bees amply justified their confidence in themselves by turning the tables in easy fs ; shion. Lynch senr. winning the toss elected to bat on but a fair wicket, which conimnroved <is the day wore on The first wicket fell in the first over, but Lynch senr. and Bain put. on 38 runs before the latter was 1.b.w., a decision he did not seem to relish. Lynch senr. left at 61, after a nice display of dnfenr-e and attack. He hit five fours. Lynch junr. again showed fine form, and improves in every match, getting plenty of wrist work in. No one else did much except Duval, who by lusty hits to the en rattled up 21 in double

J quick time. Fisher proved a tower of strength to. his side and got most of his wickets by varying his length. The Bees on going in were determined to take no risks and played the bowling in very solid fashion. Loughnau, S. O'Callaghan and Douglas played very steadily, the last-named being particularly strong on the leg side. To Campbell, however, most of the credit is due, his defence being extremely sound, while he picked out the loose ones with rare judgment. L. O'Callaghan for once showed liis true form, and gtve a bright and attractive display of hard hitting. Overton was responsible for a brilliant catch at long off, taking a hard low hit close to the ground. The Bees eventually won by 74 runs, and on the day proved themselves to be.indisputably the superior team. Mrs W. Rutherford dispensed afternoon tea which was most acceptable. SOUTH END. .':■■ This match was played at Temuka yesterday, and resulted in a win for Goraldinc by 71 runs. The weather being perfect, and the wicket in good order, a most enjoyable game' ensued. The bowling honours were divided between Wills 4 for 31, Cave 3 for 40, and Kane 2 for 52. South End started badly, two wickets being down for four runs, but Cave, Kane and Warburton stopped the rot, the former compiling 48, chiefly by hard hitting. The innings closed for 101 a few minutes before call of time. McLean bowled well for Geraldine, securing 5 wickets for 2G, and was ably assisted by Howden, 3 for 11.
