TEMUKA DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.
The monthly' meeting of the Temuka District High School was held on Tuesday night, Present: Messrs D. Melnnes (chairman), A. C Watson, G Levens. - lieo. Thomson, -F. Saunders, R. Mefc'son, J. Davis and Dr Crawsliaw. A report of Mr T. H. Gfill on an examination of the Secondary Department of the school was read and ton-MtL-red_ very satisfactory. The Education Board notified the committee that, subject to a satisfactory medical certificate, Miss Annie Simpson had been appointed a third year pupil teacher, and Miss Violet E. Jessop a first year probationer. A donation of £1 was received from Mr John Jacksbi: towards the school improvement fund.
The headmaster submitted his report, and mentioned that the school reopeiieci *in 2nd February,, the attendance being: High School 32, primary 342; total 375. Since then the roll and attendance has increased. Miss Louie Gray completed her apprenticeship as a. pupil teacher, and left for Christchurch to attend the Training College. In the examination For Junior National aud Education Board scholarships, 13. Iveraeh, Alma Cook. Edith Bennett, James Gaby, N. Scrimshaw, and • Ivy Langridge passed.- Alma (look «-as awarded a scholarship. The following" qualified in the senior board scholarship examinations: Alberta AVats'jfi, Harry Storey, and William Mcjflillan. In the matriculation examination H. Talbot passed, and the following were successful in the Civil Service examination: Annie Simpson, A. Lewis, K. Latimer, "W. McMillan, W. t.'onnell, J. Bennett and S. Davey. In addition to the above successes Mary Mills gained a National Scholarship of £SO a year for 3 years. The Board of have supplied free reading books to standards!, and 11., and to upper classes in the infant room. The s-ho«I excursion is fixed for 25th Inst. to Oamaru. the fares to be Is 7d for children and 3s 9d for adults. The chairman remarked that the report--was vrry satisfactory. It was resolved 1 that a sum of 40s be i-pent for children's nrizes at the sports, and that the Mayor be asked to proclaim Thursday, 25th inst. a whole holiday. The visitor's report was next considered and Messrs Davis and Thomson appointed visitors for the coming month. Accounts, amounting; to £2B 5s 2d, were passed for payment, .and the meeting terminated.
