A friendly match between the Timaru Port Guards and Waimate Rifles was fought' out on the Waimate range yesterday afternoon, the result being a win. for the Guards by 56 points. The weather was against good shooting, a very tricky wind blowing across the range, the effect of this, especially at the 500 yards, being very noticeable, the scores of some of the cracks showing Trentham results. The match was carried out in a most friendly manner. At the 200 yards the Guards were leading by 11 points, but at the 500 yards Waimate pulled up 7 points. From this stage the Guards were bii_ their mettle, and gained 52 points at the 600 yards' range, easily winning the match.
