HIGH VALUATIONS.
SPIRITED PROTESTS. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Feb. 18. In regard to the high valuations by the Valuation Department f;he committee of the Town Council, after conferences with the valuer decided that the assessment are high and that after individual eases of what are considered undue increases had been dealt with the inspecting valuer should be requested to make a percentage reduction all round on the unimproved values. A meeting of North End ratepayers tonight protested strongly against the increases made in the unimproved values in the district and appointed a deputation to confer with the inspecting valuer. The meeting also resolved to call upon the ratepayers to individually lodge objections to the valuations.
