At Lyttelton to-day two railway wharf labourers, John Shepherd, of Opawa, and William Coglo Were working in a railway truck alongside , tho steamer Cornwall, which was loading scrap iron arid old rails. A sling of iron while heing'hoisted fouled some other iron, with the result that Shepherd and Coyle were knocked out of the truck and fell into the water between the steamer and the wharf. Coyle escaped with nothing worse than a ducking, but Shepherd was not so fortunate as his head struck/ the, edge of the wharf. He was assisted to the casualty ward, where luV injury which consisted of a lacerated scalp wound was attended to. His injury was' not very serious, as he was able to go to his home.

GORE, Feb. 18. A sudden death. occurred at Pukorau yesterday, when Charles O'Hagan expired, presumably'from heart disease, while transacting business in n. carpenter's shop.' He was an old identity of the district, and a. settler for thirty years. No inquest is necessary.
