At the tall6w sales 477 casks were offered; and ; 28S sold. Lower quality sorts are 3d per cwt. dearer; other sorts are unchanged. FALL IN EXPORTS. Per Press Association. , WELLINGTON, Feb. 18. According to returns- compiled by the Trade: Review; tjhere was.. a shortage of de306,'000 in .the .exports of the Dominion for the .last quarter, of 19,08 as compared , with* the corresponding period of 1907. This is inore apparent than .real. ,In , wool alone„ there is si decrease pf £583;0512.,, The weight of: wool slnpments, however, shows a shortage of less than 5 r per. cent.., .equal in value to barely. £5.7,Q0'0; so that to the extent of £326;s)b the- decrease. ;is o'iily a difference, in ~ valuations . and quite misleading, the valuations in,.December 1907 having , been excessive. Moreover the .December .quarter is | always an unsatisfactory. one for purposes of comparison... ~ It. is a , busy time for exports,; and a little lateness or forwardness in operations or in the passinfof custom house'entries niay affect the question whether the exports are recorded in December or January, a different, month and year, and thus a. fictitious appearance of increase or decrease may be created.

Messrs Dalgety and. Co. have received the . following cable' message, dated . London, February 17th:—"Any change in . prices of inferior qualities of tallow is in favour of sellers, whilst any alteration in other descriptions is in favour of buyers." ; . Mr H. H. Webb has received a cable message from the Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company s London office, stating that there is no improvement in the' frozen meat market, and that prices are unchanged.
