Dr. Mason, Chief Health Officer, and Dr. Finch, District Health Officer, came down from Christchurch yesterday to attend a conference regarding a consumption sanatorium. The former went on to Dunedm in the afternoon.

At the conference of the New Zealand Dental Association, held at Wellington last month, Mr Edwin Cox, L.D.S., Eng., lather of Dr. Cox, Timaru, was unanimously elected an honorary life member of the Association. A similar honour was conferred upon Mr Cox last year by the Auckland Dental Association. Three sons of Mr Cox are dental practitioners in the Dominion, and his only daughter, Mrs H. C. Heath, of Auckland, is also a registered dentist by examination. Mr Claude McDonald, a visitor from Australia, who has had experience in mountain climbing the Swiss Alps and the Rockies, attempted to scale Mount Cook 011 Wednesday last, accompanied by Guide Graham and another. Crawford, formerly mounted constable here, but who is now 111 charge of Clyde police station, was 111 Timaru yesterday looking up old friends, of whom he lias a good number in this district. Mr S. H. Willis has received word that he has passed his examination in dentistry, gaining over 98 per cent, of the possible marks. He had previously got through the pharmacy examination and is perhaps the first person in New Zealand to hold both titles. Mr Willis served his apprenticeship and was coached for the dental examination by his brother, Mr A. W. Willis, of Timaru.
