DEMONSTRATION BY UNEMPLOYED. Press Association-By Telegraph-Ccpyris.lt LONDON, Feb. 14. The Church Socialist League held a demonstration at ■ Trafalgar Square. The speakers included, besides- several clergymen, Dr. Clifford and a number of other Nonconformists: The ministers urged that the Government should take immediate steps to compel Mr Burns to distribute the money voted for the unemployed. They also demanded that Parliament should make the question of work or maintenance with training the first business of the session. CASE FOR CONCILIATION. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 15. The first case to be referred to the Conciliation Council for the Canterbury district was filed to-day. The applicants are the New Zealand Boot Trade Industrial Association of Workmen, and they apply to the Council to settle the dispute between them and the employers. The Association recommends as assessors Messrs D. Prieliard, Christchurch, S. C. Brown, Dunedin, and F. Harding, Auckland, all bootmakers. The application sets out that a conference between the parties held on January 13th proved aboi'tive, and the motion referring the matter to the Conciliation Ciuiii'-il was agreed to by 510 to nil. Tile demand is fur a new award, and the conditions and wages asked for are on the lines of the demands made at the conference above referred to.

The Inspector of " Factories here states that at present there is a fair number of building trades operatives out of work, principally carpenters, painters, bricklayers, and plasterers. There have not been many callers at the bureau who belong to the unskilled labour class.
