THE CIVIL SERVICE.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 12. The following are the results of the Civil Service Senior Examination: — Bernard Jones (Timaru), Henry J. McMullin (Christchurch), Wm. F. Tracey (Christchurch), Percy H. Morey (Christchurch), Percy Dixon, John H. B. Norrie (Christchurch), Francis R. CaUaghan (Christchurch), John Gillies (Timaru), George A. Hawkes (Timaru), Sydney C. Andrews (Christchurch), Ernest E.' Crawshaw (Christchurch), Eric J. Miles (Temuka), Wm. G. Pearce (Christchurch), . Robert J. Russell (Christchurch), Edgar Chas. Topp (Christchurch). The general public has very little idea of the immense task set before the Civil Service Classification Board when Parliament appointed it to set down in a list in proper order of procedure every person in the Civil Service. It was quite imoossible to complete the work in time for last session and Parliament pnn.aeouently extended the period until s March 31st". The Civil Service Board <TepTited to Colonel Collins (Secretary Treasury). Mr H. -T. H. Blow (Under-Secretary for Public Works), and Mr G. Hogben (Inspector-General of Schools), the preliminary work in rnnnection -with the arrangement of the list-. This is now almost complete. The really big difficulties of classification .J,-.™" he»n disposed of and Parliament will he able to adopt the list soon after the session opens. Included in the scheme is everv civil servant of ' five y*»ars who is not alrpndy in a classification department. The number will r-roVibly be found to exceed six thousand.
