GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Geraldme County Council was Held on Thursday. Present Messrs Li. J. IJennistoun (.chairman), Grant, Metcalfe, Arruitage, Kelnian, li. i{. Macdonald, and Dixon. Correspondence was read as follows : From the Government Insurance Department, re the Workers' Compensation Act. pointing out that the premium would be increased under the Amending Act. —deceived. From Mr F. G. Shrimpton, hon. sec. to the South Canterbury Jubilee committee, Tiniaru, asking for a donation to the funds'.—The chairman explained that as the communication would nave to be dealt with before the Council met, he and Mr Macdonald had decided to contribute £lO on behalf of the Council. The chairman's action was approved. From Mr F. AV. Joynt, clerk, Tcmuka Road Board, asking for a payment towards the cost of purchasing birds' eggs and heads. —It was resolved to attend to same.

From Mr -J. Hay, Tiniaru, slating that he had returned the letter ot tue Levels County Council left with him, and had seen Mr Orbell who had informed him that the Levels County Council could not get tiiur loan until after the February meeting, but as soon as the money was available they would nay their share of cost of the. work in connection with the Opihi bridge.—Received. From Mr F. F. "Whitehead, clerk of the Levels County . Council, on the same matter.

From Mr'F. AV. Marchant, in regard to the Allandale road bridge, Fairlie. He had formally applied on behalf, of the Council for the full sum of £IOOO from the Government instead of the decreased contribution which the Christchurcb road engineer offered. — Received.

The chief engineer (Mr Hursthouse) wrote to the effect that enquiries were being made regarding the full payment of £IOOO to enable the Minister to come to a decision respecting a grant for the Allandale bridge. An advice note was received from the treasury that the sum of £424 5s had been paid to the credit oi the Council in connection with the Opihi bridge. The Mackenzie County Council forwarded cheque for £15.0, balance of £IOOO contribution towards the cost or the Allandale bridge. It was decided to forward a copy of Mr Merchant's report stating the reason why jarrah timber had been substituted for. ironbark in the work of constructing this bridge.. The ranger's report on the OrariWaihi water race was read, also that of the clerk of works, Mr 1\" Billings. The chairman of the Orari-Rangitata water supply committee (Mr J. C. Rolleston.) reported that there was a fair supply of water in. all the races, and the chairman cf the Waitohi committee, -j;<so reported that the races m that district were all in good oruer. j*. sum of £9 12s had been passed for payment during the month. Mr John Williams was appointed ranger for the Pleasant Point district, and it was decided' to leave the appointment of a ranger for the Geraldine riding in the hands of Messrs Stubbs and Keiman. .

The application of Mr C. Lewis for the lease of a reserve of 15 acres oh the upper side of .the Rangitata traffic bridge was accepted, the lease to bo for 5 years,' and - tnc lessee to put tiie fences in repair.' Mr Southby was granted permission to cut cocksfoot on a reserve near the Pleasant Point protective works. ' Accounts', amounting to £l2Bl, were passed for payment, and .;the Council rose. ■,■''■
