THE GRAIN MARKETS.. There -is not a great deal of business passing on the local markets at the present time, there being very little old wheat to handle. Millers, however, have been buying in small quantities at up to v4s j6d per bushel. Though there is rib new wheat on, the market yet, several forward sales have been made during the week at 3s 6d per bushel for mixed lines of Tuscan, red chaff, and velvet, delivered at country stations. The buyers are stipulating that the wheat must be prime milling. There has been a call lately for. oats from Auckland, and a big shipment of this cereal is to go in the s.s. Wanaka. B- grade Gartens have been sold to fill Auckland orders at Is 9d, and Danish at Is 7d to Is Bd, f.0.b., s.i. Some merchants have now practically cleared their stocks of oats. A line of 3500 oushels of new Dun oats was sold on trucks at Ashburton tliis week, at Is 4d per bushel. There is 'no business doing in _a wholesale way in potatoes, but retail, they are being sold at Id per. lb. Flour is selling at £lO 10s, brail at £4 15s, pollard at £6, and oatmeal at . £IL per ton in each. case. STODHOLME JUNCTION SALE. •The .usual fortnightly sale was held at the above yards yesterday, when the VarJing comprised 42 cattle and 3350 shwp and lambs. For fat sheep the demand was not so keen as that experienced at recent sales j this-can. no doubt, be accounted for by the fact that the bulk of the sheep offered, especially lambs, contained a good percentage which was not suitable for freezing purposes. Store sheers ot which the bulk was ewes and lambs, met with fair enquiry. Sales of sheep were as follows:—Fat ewes at 10s 10s 4d lis 2d, 12s lOd to 13s, da. lambs at 13s 3d to 13s lid, do. wethers at 14s 6d to 15s 6d; stores, full-mouth ewes with lambs at 9s id, 4, 6 and 8 ; tooth do. at 14s 6d, 2-tooth ewes at loss 6d, 4 6 and 8-tooth ewes at 1/s (good lot;, f.m: ewes with, lambs at lis 4d, sound-mouth-ewes at 13s 6d; lambs at 12s, 3d,.pen at lis 9d, do. at lis 4d. do. at lis lid, do. good at 13s 3d; wethers Jenitootlis aVl2s9d Cattle of which there was a small yarding, sold at full rates.
