FIRES.

Per Press Association. GISBORNE, .V.iii. 18. The residence of Mr P. Mortson.'.cn at Ormond, was destroyed by fro on Saturday night. The building was insured in the Commercial Union for £4OO, and the furniture for £l5O in the same office. A boy aged eleven, who was alone in the house, had a mviow escape.

LEVIN, Jail. 18. The stiiblcs and storeroom at the Albion Hotel, Shannon, with their eontents, were destroyed. The hotel hud a narrow escape. The shed was insured for £&>. Its content#, which were valued at J-000, were uninsured. CHttISTCH UUCH, Jan. 18. Shortly before 10 o'clock this morning a fire broke out in a six-roomed wooden house in Salisbury Street, occupied by Mr M. Sage. The brigade were summoned by telephone and the steam and chemical engines wore promptly on the spot. The fire had a good hold of the roof at the back of the house, but was got under control soon. Much of the furniture, was saved, but the house was badly burnt , and the contents of two rooms were destroyed. The property belongs to G. Sharman, of Sprcydon, and is insured. The furniture was insured for £125 in the National Office. This afternoon a five-roomed cottage in George street, North Invercargill, was destroyed by fire. The place was owned and occupied by Mr ltobert "Wilson. The house was insured 'in the United office tor £loo, and the furniture, in the South British oflieo for £IOO.
