BLIZZARD AND SNOWSTORMS
During December and January, wo will Received 11.56 p.m., Jan. 18th. NEW YORK, Jan. 18. A severe blizzard is sweeping the United States. . LONDON, Jan. 18. Fierce snowstorms prevail in bcotland. Trains were snowbound .for many hours; some were delayed a day and a half. . l'er Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 18. The weather is still disconcerting farmers.; . Heavy/ rain fell .again last night, but it is clear now. The rainfall for the month to date is 3\ inches. DUNEDIN, Jan. 18. There have been practically tnree weeks' wet weather, and only two fine days since Christmas. Reports from the country districts show that the grain is standing up well, and. so far the prospects for wheat and oats are reasonably good, but : all through Southland aud iii many places between Clinton and Dunedin the rye crop is flat, and the hay is badly damaged. Turnips so far arc not mucli affected. There 'will- be a serious loss in tnc lambs for export, since the cold is stopping .the ewes' milk and the .lambs are not fattening.
