TWO HOURS OF MYSTERY
There was again a full - house at the. Theatre Koyal on Saturday night for the third performance of Maskelyne and Levant's Mysteries Company, and the spectators were again treated to an excellent entertainment. The programme resembled those of the previous evenings for the most part, but the attraction of the unsolved practical enigmas in Mr Clark's conjuring and the cabinet and 'other illusions will bear the strain of ' repeated seeing. _ Mr Clark showed some new conjuring tricks, and did them with sueli neatness and accompanied them with such clever patter," that his turn was a very enjoyable one. The construction! of his "tub of diogenes" must be remarkable. The audience See what appears to be a cask without any ends. They are permitted (from their seats) to look through it, and doing so see a full circle of floor carpet beyond, and the, feet of Mr Clark as he walks round it; there seems to he nothing in it, no hiding place within it; yet a boy is brought out of it. By a -neat but less puzzling illusion a living "valentine" is produced from a giant envelope. And the' old cabinet trick is multiplied by the incarceration of several persons, who appear and disappear within it in a qaiite astonishing way. Mr Barclay Gammon discoursed in his inimitable manner on some modern songs, and Gintaro the Japanese equilibrist delighted _ everyone by _ his clever feats. Pleasing cello selections by Signor Martinengo, and some living pictures filled up gaps in a satisfactory way. Among the views were some of busy New York that were highly interesting, ' '
