WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Waimate Borough Council met on Tuesday night. Present—The Mayor (Mr i\. 1- ranees) ,and Councillors Aicol, Miller, Manchester, - Sanders, Hutt, Buckingham-and Inkstor Councillor J. Hunt, the new member, made the customary declaration, and wat welcomed by the Mayor. One case ol scarlet lever was reported. Mr K Williams was granted permission tc place crossings over street channels oi footpath to his section in Glasgow street, subject to the approval of the Works Committee. The Oddfellows Hall Trustees applied for their annual license, and a license for three months was granted. Certain alterations art to be effected before the end of that time, to the .satisfaction of the Building" Committee, when the annual li cense would he granted. Messrs Guinness and LeCrcn, Ltd., Wall and Rickman, and C.F.C.A., Ltd., were grantee; auctioneers licenses. In response to .'. requisition the clay of the Trades Picuit to Waihao .Downs (21st inst.), was declared a full holiday. The South Canterbury Jubilee Committee wrote thanking the Council for its donation, ana inviting the Council to attend the celebrations. The Mayor expressed his intention to he present, and was appointed the Council's representative, councillors regretting that they con to not attend in a body. Mr A. Shearei applied for leave to transfer lease ol borough section to Mr T. McPhersou Granted subject to usual conditions. The Mayor reported that, the work at the headworks was going on satisfactorily and that in a few clays it was thought the work would be advanced •enough to make everything thoroughly safe. Councillor Sanders corroborated the Mayor's remarks, and explained ii detail the work that is being done. Oil the motion of the Mayor, seconded b> Councillor In fester, it was decided "that the Council place on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the borough by the late Mi James Crawford in his prolessional connection with the Council as then water engineer, and expresses its condolence with Mrs Crawford and family, a copy of this resolution to be forwarded to Mrs Crawford.-" The motion was carried unanimously. Councillor Hunt was appointed a member ol the Works and banitary Committees. Certain requisite fittings asked for t>\ the Fire Brigade, are to be procured a: desired. Mr A. Craighead applied foi leave to instal a septic tank at the Royal Hotel; the Council granted th< application, the construction of all lit tiirn-s and drains to be to the satis,!action of the Health Department Accounts, amounting to £l-12 lls Md, were passed for payment. The Council then held a special meeting to consider the bye-laws. Progress was reported at about 11 p.m., and the meetin" adjourned to 26th inst.
