ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The conference of boot manufacturers which has been sitting for the past two days has resulted in the formation of one body to replace the three bodies which have hitherto guarded the interests of the manufacturers. The official designation of the new body is the Boot Manufacturers' Federation of New Zealand. Some necessary formal resolutions have yet to be confirmed, with reference to the assimilation of the old bodies by the new association, and other details have to be fixed up. The officers are to be elected .annually, the first officers of the federation elected at the present conference are as follows: —President, J. A. Frostick (Christchufch); vice-president, T. Hodgson (Auckland); secretary, A. H. Bridger (Dunedin); treasurer, Wm. McKinley (Dunedin) ; • executive committee—the president, vice-president, treasurer and James Hannah (Wellington). In the course of the proceedings the president made feeling reference to the deaths of several members of the federation, those members being A. McKinley (Dunedin), W. Staples (Wellington), and John Trenwith (Auckland). These had been loyal supporters of the industry and were men held in high esteem. The conference was engaged to-day considering matters connected with the proposed industrial agreement which it is hoped will result from conference to be held to-morrow with representatives of the Bootmakers' Federation. Those who will represent the boot manufacturers at this conference are J. A. Frostick, T. Hodgson, G. A. Coles, Wm. McKinley, W. H. Murray and R. H. Turner.
