THE S.C. JUBILEE.

A second meeting in connection with the pro|»osal to celebrate next month tlic jubilee of South Canterbury, was held in the Borough Council Chamber. There were about thirty present, and the Mayor, who presided, regretted that a wet night had prevented their having a larger meeting. Mc Craigie reported what had been done at the previous meeting, and added that Mr Robt. Khodcs had called upon him and told him that he would be glad to help the movement in every way he could, lie also read a letter from Mr Kobt. r.ugar. He went on to say that ho hoped i lie people of Timaru would throw themselves into this thing heart anil soul, especially the younger people, and make it a demonstration worthy of ihe occasion. There were many Strathallan settlers, and some few older still, all over the district, and these must be invited to take part in the proceedings. They would want an energetic secretary and a treasurer (for there must b»« some expenditure and subscriptions to meet \Vt. A programme must be adopted, and a committee ap)Miinted to carry it out. A procession must be part of the programme, and he had the promise of the Druids that they would take part in it. and he had uo doubt that other Friendly Societies would follow their example. The Volunteers and Cadets, and the Fire Brigades might aUo take part in it. .Mr Satterthwnite recommended getting information from C'hristchurch about what was done at the Canterbury Jubilee in 1900. A procession was the principal feature in that celebration.

The Mayor agreed that a procession should be the feature of the affair. He hoped to see the young j»cople take it up enthusiastically, and help to work it up: there were many descendants of the old settlers who should take a hand in it.

A discussion took place about' the best date for the celebration, the duo date. January 16th. falling on at Saturday, and it was agreed that, Thursday. January Mth, would be the most suitable day. It was then resolved, nein com, that the jubilee bo celebrated on Thursday, Januurv 14th, and that one feature ot the celebration bo a monster procession.
