Press Association-Bv RESULTS OF PROTECTION. MELBOURNE, Nov. 28. Mr Fisher, speaking at a banquet given by the Chamber of Manufacturers, and dealing with the progress of Australia under protection, claimed that 21,000 employees had been added to industries during the past year. The new Government would give manufacturers every assistance they required in getting industries protected and securing the whole of the Aus tra'lian trade. Mr Deakin said that during the term of the late Government the trade of Queensland had increased by £4,000,000, that of Victoria by £7.250,000, and"that of New South Wales by £7.500- } 000. A STATE COAL MINE. ADELAIDE, Nov. 25.~ The Assembly passed, a Bill authorising the Government to purchase a State coal mine at Maitland. A RETURNING ATHLETE. Received 1.5 a.m., Nov. 30th.
