SWIMMING.
SOUTH CANTERBURY CEXTRE. ' The first annual meeting of the South Canterbury Centre of the Xew Zealand Swimming Association was held last evening in Hutchison's Tea Rdoms, Mr F. J. Dunn presiding. Delegate* were present from Geraldine; Asliburton; Timaru Rowing Club; Timaru Star Swimming Club; and Oamaru. The report stated that the Centre had six clubs affiliated, with a total membership of 466 swimmers. During the season seven carnivals were held, under the jurIrKiiction of the Cenues, and the display at each was excellent, and the contests keenly contested. The..South Canterbury 50 Y'ards Championship. and the 100 Yard* Championship . were popular contests. nnd both were won_ by the East Christchurch Club representative, Mr F. E. Dodge. School boy proficiency certificates had been granted. " Tho sport of swimming in the .Timaru Centre district iias reached veiy satisfactory conditions, and much interest w>.s taken in the various fixtures. The balance phoet showed receipts £6 6s. and exjienditure £4 16s 4d. leaving a balance in hand of £1 9s Bd. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President. Mr James Craigie; vice-president, Mr G. S. Cray: chairman, Mr <J. G. Priest; secretary and treamirer, Mr A. G. Sanderson : official handicapper, Mr P. Jordan : auditor. Mr G. Grainger. The age for school boy championships wh< fixed at fourteen ; and for eirls at fifteen. It was decided to hold the boys championship contests in Timaru ail d the crirls championship contests in Oaniartt. Further details were deferred "until the njjt meeting. ;
