WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tie; Council met-on Tuesday night. the Mayor (Mr X. Franc-is) presiding. All the*members were present. Tlie Mavo r was granted leave of absence from" November 6th to 14th. and Mr Inkoter was appointed Deputy-Mayor. The form of address to be presented to tin- Governor on November sth wais read and approved, and ii was .left to the Mayor to get the address prepared in a suitable manner, emit nut to exceed £5. The joint (borough and county) reported on the arrangements made for celebrating the Governor's vk-.it to Waimatc, and it, was decided to ask shopkeepeis to close at uoon on November sth. A requewt for the use of the Council's chairs at a Masonic banquet to hi to the Governor was granted. Councillor Morgan reported for the water committee as to the engine r's proposed reconstruction of the intake, and it was decided that th : s be done by day work jf a suitable supervisor could be got. At this stage the Mayor had to have, and Councillor Inl&lcr was appointed chairman. The returning officer was granted the Council Chambers for use as a booth at the general election. Mr Ij. O'Callaghan acknowledged th--Council's motion of appreciation of his services as Councillor. The Health Department -wrote re a case of i«>carlet fever, which hail developed in Waimate, the day after the patient had h ft Timarii Hospital, that an investigation showed that no blame was attributable to anyone.
