A CASE OF D.T.'S.

(To ths Editor of the 'Timaru Herald-") Sir, —In this moraing*6 "Herald" there is a paragraph to the effect, that a ifcident of Oauiaru was before the Court yc&terday charged' with having been helplessly drunk. As he was suffering from delirium tremens imagining that people were chasing him and that all manner of queer things were happening —he was remanded till Thursday. Now the implication of the. paragraph is that the man had. come recently from Oamaru and had acquired his drinking habits in that no-license area. I am. always suspicious about reports of Ashburton and Oamaru men coming here drunk, or coming here to get drunk, and so I have just been over to the jail to make inquiries and to satisfy my own mind. I have seen the poor man—a raving maniac—and he is a sad example ol the fruits of the liquor traffic in our midst. The facto of the „mm are th:-e :--'ii€ man has not been in Oamaru for five yeats.
