THE PRICE OF BEER.
To the Editor of the " Timaru Herald." Sir,—l beg. in (he face of the forthcoming election and the importance which our votes may have in the local option question, to ask if it would not be an opportune moment to approach the licensed tictualkro in regard to a reduction in the price of our daily beer. At the present, time we par sixpence for a pint ot hops, and if one of our "'cobbers'' eays "till them up again," we have say a " pony sbandy" or a '* brewer's pint," and again the sixpence has to be parted with. Is tire fair? I say no. 1 am sure you would look t>ide-wuys at your grocer, if today you bought a hag of eugar at My 10s and to-morrow you bought half a. bat*, and was again charged 10s. lam inclined -to think you would tell him to keep his sugar. Yet you will go and have your "pony" at Brother Bung's and say : " Oh! he's not a bad sort." Wake up then, you workers, and demand a fair deal from the publicans, and if they do not respond, well, then, when you get to the ballot box, why, smite them with a •"inightT emote."—l am. etc., 5d BEERS.
