FAIRLIE NOTES.
I (From Our Own Correspondent.) The opening of the season in connection ! with the Fan-lie. Tennis Club took, place !on Saturday last. The weather was beautifnlh- fine, and there was an exceptionally large" number of members present. One of die court* visa little soft on account.of the recent top-dressing,. but this was to be expected a* there was a very strong nun shining throughout the day. ' The play showed that there is a lot of good material in the club, and its team should be able to give a good account of ibrelf .during the season. Yery acceptable afternoon tea w *s provided by Mrs Harper. The committee has decided to introduce a ladder for'the purpose of grading the players and also to get a tournament gc ing as soon as possible. } On Thursday Lust the installation of Bra C. W. Isitt as W.M. of Lodge Mackenzie, was conducted by Wor. Bro. Binns, Past Bro. Grand Master, assisted by his officers.- The otber officers installed were—Bro. Stirling, S.W.; Bro. HaT«tead J. W.; Wor. Bro. Banks, secretary; Wor. Bro. Macdonald, treasurer; Bro. Pttkington. S.D.; Bro. Hosking, J.D.; Bro. Matheson J. 0.; Bro. Wilson tyler and Bros. Dixon awl James Jones stevards. There were present many visitors from Temuka. Thnaru, Waimate and other lodges. After the installation the vieiting brethren were entertained in the refectory, adjoining the lodge-room, the catering, which was in the hands of Mr Skinner, l*ing all «i a t could be desired. Tbe director* of the Fairlie Technical Association has received word that £5 ha* been granted towards the cost of a sewing machine procured bv the AjnjcUtion. also £7 6s 3d towards the cost of the fittings of the cookery room.
