A young man named McGee became iso sxeited at the pony races on Sat unlay that le ran across the course at the- clave- of >nV event, under the- anpressi-.m that jhe lorses were all past, but was. knocked' down by a, belated whipper-in. and received a compound fracture of the right leg.-. '' GREYMOUTH. October 19. A sad boating fatality occurred at Lake Bninner on Saturday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Green and family went out on the lake in two boats. Mr and Mrs Green and their son (agod fourteen) weiv in a tint-bottomed boat, proceeded as- far as Horseshoe Bay. and were returning between 5 anil 6 o'clock on their homew;ird trip, when the boy decided to change places with his father. He was in the ;ict of changing, when the boat turned over. As soon as the boat filled Mr and Mrs Green sank, and the boy did not see them again. The lad hung on to the bot- ' torn of. the boat till the second boat came tip, .when be was rescued- The occupants of the- second boat,spent considerable time in searching for Mr and Mrs Green, but without avaij. Frank Hedges, 21: years of age. was drowned .whilst bathing in a waterhole in Boundary Creek, at Eveline, yesterday, inomimr. No one witnev e;l. the accident.
