NEW TROTTING CLUB FORMED. A meeting was held in (be .Stone Stables last evening to consider the prospects of a Trotting Club; there were thirty present, and several were apologised for. Mr F. Watson, who was secretary to the former club for several years, was voted to the chair, and Mr Rodger* acted as secretary pro tern. The chairman explained that a. good many people lbought the time "had come for. reviving the old game. 'J here had be«3ii a great increase iu trotters in the district, and lovers of trotting would like to see a club formed. They j>erhaps could not get a totalisator permit at the present, but might do to later on. That did not signify much as the fees they could get from brookmakers would serve the same purpose. He Loped that all who became members would be "active" members, not satistied wi.h paying their subscription, but willing to do ail they could to make- the club a success. It was very encouraging to see so good a meeting, it aujniicu well lor the success of I tie club, r.uquiry had been inaue aud it had bc*rii ascertained that there would be very little trouble in getting the use. ol the racecourse, on which there, were all the appliance* required. Mr Morrow remarked that, a trotting club ought to be supported by farmers and others who were fond of a good horse on the road, in harne.ss or under saddle, because if a Club was in existence, it would mean that one ur more good sirea would be brought to the district and the breed ol hacks and buggy horses improved. .Mr Watson mow.J, Mr E. U. Smith second and it was earned unanimously—"That a. Trotting Club ba formed to be called the South Canlcibmy Trotting Club." Mr Robt. Campbell was elected a patron, on account of his interest in trotting. And. in tecognitioii of bis having brought a good trotter to the district years ago. Mr J. Craigie waw also appointed a patron. It wat resolved that t-he olhiers Do elected from those present or who had sigr.tied their intention to support the club. Names were then taken, all present becoming subscriber*, and proposing as memberu others who wer« not present. The Hat thus made up included forty names. Some not present, sent letters of approval and sympathy, among these wax Mr G. P. Wood, who offered to act as secretary for twelve months in an honoiary capacity. Mr J. Sinclair was proposed and uu.inimouoly elected president, and thereupon took the chair. Mr Watson being thanked on leaguing it. Ur Thomas was proposed as president but he declined on the giound that ho could not spare time for tho duties. The subscription was fixed at half a giunea, by a large majority as agaiU3t Six vice prroddenti were elected— Messrs J. Hall, V. Watson. E G. Smith, W. M. Connolly, J. Shaw, and A. SeaH'e. Others elected «er f treasurer, Mr F. Wat son; secretary, Mr G. I\ Wood; com niittee, Messrs W. Cocksou. J. Robiueou, F. Morrow. G. Muuro, J. llilcbri.it, W. Ogd-.ii. W. Connolly. l)r Thomas siale<l thai the ilub could rely upon the juckey Club giving them all the help tht-y .-ouid. iApplau.<c). The lease of tile course would have to be got from the trust*.-.'., and he felt, suie the trustee* would be glad to try and help them also. Dr Thomas gave the ineetny some useful information icgaiJuig the law regulating betting on racecourse*. Mr Thomas was heartily tbsnLed for his in formation.
