TO VISIT WAIMATE.

His Excellency the Governor is to visit Waimate on November sth, in his capacity of Grand Master of the Masonic Order, and the local authorities will give Jiim a public reception. The Borough Council on Tuesday evening drafted a programme and tlie Mayor (Mr Norton Francis) and Mr Nichol waited on the County Council yesterday to ask for their co-operation. The Mayor stated that His Excellency would arrive at midday on Thursday, November sth, and remain till mid-day on Friday. It was suggested that the members of the two bodies should meet the train, and welcome' His Excellency to Waimate. There should then be an inspection of volunteers and of the officers. The Studholme Mounted Rifles and Waimate Rifles should be asked to furnish a guard of honour as His Excellency drove out of the town for lunch, and on liis return in the afternoon. At 5 p.m. a public reception could be held in Victoria Park, and an address of welcome be presented from .the two local bodies* His Excellency would "of courso reply, and the principal citizens would be presented. The bands should be asked to play, and there should be sports for children, and afternoon tea provided free for all; on Friday there need bo nothing prepared for but an inspection of the High School Cadets, who could provide a guard of honour, and a farewell by the local authorities at tho railway station. The cost of the reception was estimated at £35, and the Borough Council suggested that this be equally divided between the two Councils.

The Council Heartily approved of tho proposed arrangement, and appointed the chairman and Mccsrs Studholme and Walker to represent them on a joint committee to carry out the programme, subject, of course t« His Excellency's approval tb-.-rcof.
