ANGLING.
RESTRICTION OF: BASKETS. , To'the Editor' - of'the "Tinmu. Herald." Sir,—With respect to the meeting 'of the Aeclimitisatioh Society on September 10th, I vis.li to draw attention to the proposal which was adopted / relating to t.lie weight i6olbs) of au angler's, basket for "one day." Some lime ago anglers were complaining of the scarcity of l&h in the rivers. Would it .not be ihore workable if instead of - rest rioting the "weight," the society should limit the "number" of fish that an angler should catch in a day. This would be more iu keeping with' what anglers were complaining of, thin the weight would. As regards the weight it may be stated, that it is not. an angler's fault "that he does not get -. it. I have known a fisher hook-17.fish in one night, and it was not his fault that he did not get them out. My iwuson for fav, ouruig number rather than weight ,is that less diunag«r would be done to the...stock in the rivers. A man catching, say, 20 small tish (which is nothing uncommon) is doing more harm than he who catches six fish of lOlbs. each. I hope the Council will see their way at a fuller and more representative meeting to carry Mr Pindlay's motion for rescinding the regulation; 1 think that matters ought to be left as they are for rlius season at any rate, a* there is no ooarcitv «f fish.—f am, cw- .
