A CARNEGIE GIFT. THE HERO FUND. Press Association-By Telegraph-Copyright Received 9.30 p.m.; Sept. 25th. LONDON, Sept. 25. Mr Carnegie has given £250.000, producing an income of £12,500 a year, towards the foundation of the Hero Fund in the United , Kingdom, to reward the heiocs of peace by the maintenance of thenwidows and children. Mr Carnegie states:—"We live in a heroic age, often thrilled by deeds of heroism, where men.and women are injured or killed in attempting to preserve )r rescue their fellows. These heroes of civilisation ought to be freed from petuniary carts resulting from their heroism." Men and women are to be treated alike under fhe fund. Sailors, railway men, nuises, doctors, police, and firemen in the British Isles and waters thereof are eligible. Trustees will administer the fund. The King approves of the scheme. -The trustees have been directed? that whenever the King expressics a wish regarding .esses, his will shall be law. Mr Carnegie has. now distributed £34.000,000.
