FIRES.
Shortly before 7 o'clock last evening, a telephoned fire alarm message was received at the Fire Brigade staiion. It was understood that- -the message emanated from a house in Elizabeth svreet, a nd in that direction the brigade bas.ened away, only to find that no fire existed there, and that their services were not- requ'red. It) is believed that a flare away out to the west, apparently beyond Otipua road, was responsible for the alarm being given.
