CABINET MINISTER OPPOSED TO
Pi-essi Association-By '.telegraph-Copyright MELBOURNE, August 28.
The Minister of Lands, while at Sydney, attended the Burns-Squires light, as he had framed regulations to prevent prize, fighting on licensed racecourses, and as he had never seen-a -fight, he attended it to get personal experience. He< said that though the fight was not so brutal as he expected ib would be, it had shown him that it was pure nonsense to say that such a contest had any ennobling or elevating influence. When*one man got- ai tremendous blow there was a tremendous yell ;of applause. If that blow had been effective ib meant that the other inan had been practically disabled for the tima being , and the tremendous yell of delight that greeted this did not tend to encourage airy delicacy of. feeling. He saw nothing to make him reconstruct his ideas as to the Government giving any facilities at all for/"these exhibitions. '
