The laying of a new 15in. drain in Brown Street was being pushed on, and was more than half completed; ihe Convent drain had been re-connected, and inspect ion pits made' at connections. A plan would be prepared showing all connections, and where the drain ran through • private properties. The George Street sewer had been troublesome to keep clear of late. A considerable amount of shingling had been done in a number of streets. ; The repairs to the race at Ward's Zig-zag were in band, the. planting of willows'and other race protective work along the river bank was completed, and the trimming of trees would be finished this month for the present season. Water mains were being laid in James and Buchanan Streets, and pipes had been relaid to suit the new formation in College Road. Mi" Smith, Sanitary Inspector, reported on inspections made, and nuisances dealt with, and live hedges cut back on street lines, on new drains inspected and sanitary plumbing tested (sis' of the former, two of the latter. Rooms in six dwellings had been fumigated and disinfected on account of infectious diseases having occurred in them (five of scarlet fever and one of erysipelas).
