WAIMATE HUNT STEEPLECHASE MEETING.

The annual steeplechase meeting of tho Waimato Hunt was held on Thursday on the Waimate racecourse. .The day was damp and cold, and tho attendance was consequently not so good as-a fine afternoon would have ensured."" The sport was good, and everything passed off well. There were two caees of saddles slipping round, and in both (he riders were applauded for sticking on and finishing the nice. Craigmoro and Brisk are entered for tho Christchurch Hunt Club's point-to-point steeplechase which takes place at Templeton to-day. The committer of the South Canterbury Jockey Club met last evening,, Present: Dr C. E. Thomas (chairman),; and Messrs Rcid, Lowry, Gresson, Smith*. Cray and the secretary, C. S. Fraser.- ~Tho' chairman reported that tho Ground Committee had the matter of a scratching-bpard in hand. A letter was Tead from Mr Mee, asking for crctis fencing to be' done, to enable him to clear the land of twitch. Tho chairman undertook to see Mr Mce and if he would consent to cancel the present lease, and the trustees would give an extended lease, the matter might be arranged. Mr H.
