LONDON, July 27. In the House, of Commons th**.lrish Uni versities Bill was read a third lime.
Mr Redmond warmly praised Mr Birrell, Minister fur Education, fr>r solving a, problem that had fo : led Mr Gladstone, andadded —"We all admire a man of courage. The Nationalists will n?ver forgetMr Bin-ell's services to Ireland." Amid Nationalist cheers, Mr Balfour, in a few graceful words supported Mr Hedmond. Mr Birrell said thai, the main outlines of the Bill were such he had always wish : ed 1o see passed. It was a great and courageous effort to deal with a crying scandal, but he feared that owing to the affiliation of Maynooth with Dublin University, the latter might- fall unduly under clerical control. Mr Birrell Loped that, the new university would play a great part in educating and uniting a famous race.
Lust Saturday's sill'ng was devoted to the Finance Bill, which was read a third time. Mvanwhile the Universities Bill was read a first time in the House of Lords.
