WELLINGTON', July 25. Regarding U le threatening miners' strike, the lion. J. A. Millar, states that he has received information from the West Cocuit that tliov have no knowledge of the proposed strike. "I am a'.so informed," lie adds, " that if a strike does occur, iL can, under th* worst circumstances, only affect the Green Island miners, who number sixty or seventy. At latest advicds, there was every prospect of settling the. difficulty. lam pleased to hear that the matter is not> likely to be so .serious un was represented by lioirie alarmist reports." DUNEDLN, July 25. The opinion of persons well informed on matters ino connection with the coal industry, is that there ie> no immediate prospect of a strike; at any rate.the conference arranged for will ba held. The tension is apparently not so keen as when the Minister for Labour mads the remarks published yesterday. FREEZING WORKS CLOSING. NAPIER, July 26. Nelson Bros., Ltd., intimate tfiat owing to the uncertainty of coal supplies their Tomoana works will be closed down for stock deliveries after Thursday next until further notice.
