In the competition'for the Marshall Cup, open to girls' teams,'Timaru and Tui and Wimmera and Wesleyr-tried conclusions. In the first-mentioned game Timaru attacked practically the whole of the. time, but Tui's defence was too good and quite a< number of possible scores were prevented by the Tui backs. For Timaru Miss D. McWhirier scored, but another goal by Miss Howens was not allowed.; Tui made several essays towards the Timaru end of the field, but were.outclassed in the play. Mr Stephens gave satisfaction with the whistle.

In. t!he other game played, that between Wimmera and Wesley, both teams had to fight hard and the result was an even contest, first one side attacking and then the other. At the call of time by Mr Dreaver, the referee, no score had been made.
