DEFENDED BY MR COGHLAN.
Press AAsociation-Bv Telegraph-Copyright /LONDON, July 3.
Mr Coghlan, ', Agent-General for New South Wales, in abetter to the "Times" in reply to Mr F. Yarwood,' declares that Mr Yarwood'has riot stated the case correctly. He misled the "Times" in many important, particulars, and it uhe "Times' had had the actual facts it. .would have avoided applying the term confiscation to what was truly an act of approved almost unanimously by the people and Parliament of New South" Wales.' ;
The' "Times" last, week published a letter from F. Yarwood, of Sydney, : protesting against the Improvement* Leases Cancella-. tion Act Declaration Bill, as endorsing a policy of confiscation which was bound to shake the confidence' of nvestors in,, the comiriercial value of grants issued by=the New South ' Wales Government. '': The " Times," considered :- that the 'Bill .. eriibodies a ! harsh measure of. confiscation, and hoped that there were some palliating eircumstrices, for ; ;Mr.Yarwopd's let-, ter suggested that'.'large'j'.lando'yfr'ners have been sacrificed in order'; ib' propitiate public opinion, and efface the memory of soma ugly facts. _■ .- ' .
