The ranges received a thick coat of snow but it did not descend very low. All the streams were running full as a consequence of the rain. The rain was general throughout Canterbury, and appears to have been somewhat heavier iurther north than here. Ashburton had 5i inches up _ to Wednesday morning, and more rain fell on Wednesday night. At Cheviot some lowlying lands were under water. Sir T. W.
