THEATRE CONTROL.

Sir,—Under the Timaru Borough consolidated By-lair 1906, provision i* made for the licensing of theatres and other places of public uiee.ings. The by-law provides licenses so issusd *tre to have endorsed thereon the number of-per-sons' such theatre is licensed, to seat, accommodate, or contain.. That no owner or occupier ;of any theatre shall permit or allow a larger number of persona than that ep; slated on such license to enter und remain in such theatre at any one time. That all corridors., gangways, passages, staircases and-' inclines shall be kept entirely free from chairs or any other' obstruction, whether permanent or temporary. The Borough surveyor and c:ip:ajn of the Timaru, Fire Brigade have power to see that the above requirements <■ r t ae by-law are carried, out." There is no doubt that the above clauses wei-ty inserted in the by-law for the protection of the public, and it is to be hoped that ihose who have the authority will see that bur by-laws aie. respected.
