THE BOURKE CASE. I'er Press Association. WESTPORT, May 28. . Jn the Bourke alleged murder case one witntiis accounted f:;r the accused being ui a fish shop and later" 'on at the theatre, covering the- time the murder is isupposed to have been committed. Another witness described the' knife and pipe found on Connelly (the chief witness* for the prosecution) as similar U> tlioJ-e he saw with Bourke when the latter wa.s in the hospital. The defence- is that; the two "accused men were not with Connolly, who so graphically described the murderous assault, and that they have widencc to prove an alibi. Haakon Haakonsen, a cook who deserterf from the Norwegian barque Aeora recently at Wist port, stated that, he wa.s with" accused from 7.30 p.m. to a late hour/visiting a fish shop, a hotel and a 'theatre. During that time Anderson did not leave him .and Halinan -was only absent a few- minutes twice. Robb, a sailor on the Canopus, said that he saw' the accused at it, hotel about the time- the. murder is alleged to haw laken place'; also 'later at a. row at a hMi shop, and' described a tight in which h«j stated Halinan took part'-with three stewards off the Taluric, finishing up with a farther row on the wharf. Witness added that he saw one 'steward next day with he believed, a : black eye.'' It in alleged •by the-' defence the hyht with the stewards wa-s what accursed described on the Saturday following Bourke*.> death, and that th-.« remarks wt-re mistakenly • understood f" refer' to Bourke. The case is proceeding.
