HOCKEY.
The following will represent the Timaru Hockey Club in their match against the Geraldine team on th e Athletic Grounds to-day : —Stephens, Stevenson, H. Grade, A. Gracie, Crombie, Shiers.Gould, Drevere, J. Davidson, A. Davidson, Wotton and Hamilton. Play will commence at 2 p.m. A private telegram received on Saturday night stated that the Bawhiti Hockey Club, now in Cbristchurcb, defeated the Cbristchurcb Hine Club by nine goal:* to nil. No details of the ptay ueie- given, but. the win must be considered meritorious, as the Hiue Club is .playing in «..e senior competition for the newly-formed Ladies' Hockey Association in Christchurch.
Hockey has become a very popular winter pastime with ladies tbrougUout New Zealand, and Timaru is no exception, as there are five ladies' clubs now in Timaru. To encourage the p.'aycrs and help the game, Mr A. L. Marshall has donated a cup valued at live guineas to be competed for by the ladies* clubs in the town. A preliminary meeting has been held, at which a strong committee was formed u> draw up competition rule*, etc. The great difficulty in sight was the- trouble to g e t grounds. This hay, however, now been overcome, and although the grounds available are not all that can be desired, ttill they will do umu something' more suitable can be obtained.
